ABOUT US

Covenant Home Improvements is family owned and operated by Richard and Anna Thorburn.   A word from Rich, about his background and client-focused philosophy:

In New England tradition, reputation and word-of-mouth references are more valuable than the best in advertising design.   Quality work and customer attention are our hallmarks.  We strive to hire only trustworthy, skilled, and hard working men, consistent with the foundation we have already laid. As family-business owners, and as members of our community, Anna and I are personally vested in making clients happy and building long-term relationships.

I was born in Lyme, N.H., and raised on a small horse farm in Thetford, VT.  Through training and example, my parents instilled a strong work ethic and passion for a “job well done” in each of their five children.  My father often had my brothers and me working on a building or repair project, teaching us the trades hands-on.  Through my high school years, I operated my own lawn and landscape maintenance business.  I excelled in carpentry, and earned the Golden Hammer Award given by Stanley Tools, Inc. for a cradle I designed and hand-crafted.  Thanks to the experiences in my childhood, by the time I left for college I already had a basic working knowledge of all the trades, which would eventually become my passion and livelihood.

After graduating from Thetford Academy, I attended a small college in upstate New York.  It was there in 1989 that I met and married Anna, and eventually started a family, which now includes four children.  To help pay for college expenses, I worked for GW Buckbee Contracting Company on the construction of three new hotel buildings.  The company owner taught me a great deal more about new construction.  His example in good business practice, as well as a love for a great finished product and happy clients, further clarified my own life’s direction.

I continued to work for GW Buckbee Contracting as well as for the hotel owner/developer for many years in various capacities.  After college, I also sold heating, plumbing, and electrical supplies to contractors, while continuing to work in general contracting part-time.  When my sales company sent me to some electrical courses to further my knowledge of electric product application, I was hooked, and decided to enter the electric field.  I completed New York State’s  five-year electrical program, and became a journeyman electrician in the state of NY.  I spent five years with Stilsing Electric in the Albany, NY area,  working in heavy commercial and industrial electric work.  However, I missed the personal client contact and being able to see an entire project from start to finished product.  In 2002, Anna and I decided to return to my New England roots, move our growing family to New Hampshire, and start Covenant Home Improvements.  We give thanks to God for His blessing upon the business, and for blessing us with excellent clientele and quality associates with which to work.
